Who are you in Christ? A Light in the World

When we enter a room we turn on a light to make everything in the room visible. We don’t ever turn on dark. In fact, dark is defined as the absence of light.

The Bible uses light and dark as a metaphor for God and the absence of God. Depending on the context, light and dark could also stand for believer and unbeliever or good and evil.
Jesus is described as the light of the world (John 8:12) just as we are (Matthew 5:14).
How did we get to be the light?

“I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles” Isaiah 42:6.

God calls us to righteousness. He not only calls us, but qualifies us to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light (Colossians 1:12).

Why does he call and qualify us? Because he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves (Colossians 1:13).

We used to live in darkness and now we live in the light because the hero came and rescued us from the kingdom of darkness.

If this sounds like a classic story of redemption, that’s because it is! Only this is a very personal story, yours.

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light, Ephesians 5:8.

What’s your story of redemption? Write it!

How has your life changed being in relationship with Jesus? List three changes.

How does your relationship with Jesus make your life better?

God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin, 1 John 1:5-7.

As a result of being rescued from the kingdom of darkness we are called to walk in the light.
What does it mean to “walk in the light” for you? What does that look like?

Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard, Isaiah 58:8.
Where do you shine light?

Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky, Philippians 2:14-15.

How can you share your star light on social media?
