For the month of May I’ve challenged myself to write a devotional a day. Here is today’s devotional. If you would like to receive all the devos, please sign up here.
Israel, listen! Our God is the Lord! Only the Lord! Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your being, and all your strength. These words that I am commanding you today must always be on your minds. Recite them to your children. Talk about them when you are sitting around your house and when you are out and about, when you are lying down and when you are getting up. Tie them on your hand as a sign. They should be on your forehead as a symbol. Write them on your house’s door frames and on your city’s gates. Deuteronomy 6:4-9.
As I read this, I realize I’m living this out right now. Only I’m not talking about God and Jesus, I’m talking about Covid-19 and how to stop the spread. It’s on everyone’s mind. The whole world, not just here in the United States. I’m reciting to my children to wash their hands, not touch their faces and to practice social distancing. No matter where I go, whether I’m at home, out and about or online, talk revolves around Covid-19. I think about it before I go to sleep and when I wake up. I’m now wearing a face mask as a symbol of the times. My kids and I have put up hearts on our window and written hopeful messages on the sidewalk. I see flyers about Covid-19 everywhere. They may not be on city gates, but I see them on every store window and advertised on TV.
Thoughts for the day: What if we talked about our relationship with God and Jesus like we’re talking about Covid-19? How can you help to spread God’s word with others?
