Advent: Why should I hope in God?

One theme for Advent is hope.

Hope is a promise for the future. Faith gives us hope.  Hope for change, for something better than current events.

2020 has been a year unlike any other in recent memory. If you have lost hope and despaired this year, you are not alone. Yet there is still reason to hope because God’s promises are real and will be fulfilled.

1 Timothy 6:17 says: “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”

You’ve seen how fickle wealth is this year with layoffs and businesses closed. Economies around the world struggling through shutdowns, sick employees and deaths.

Yet when you hope in God three things are promised:

First, he richly provides. God is abundant. He has enough and is able to provide for your needs.

Second, he provides everything for you. He knows what you need and when you need it. Be ready to accept his provision. God will surprise you.

Third, what he provides is for you to enjoy. Not just endure, not just get through, to take delight in. Do you enjoy and delight in what you have?

Advent is a reminder there is hope for a better life in the future for you and the world. Let’s hope and pray 2021 sees the end of Covid-19.

God bless.
