Have you lost your joy? Do you feel as if life has sucked you dry? December and the Christmas season is supposed to be “the most wonderful time of the year.” Yet it isn’t always.
For me, I’ve noticed once the calendar hits December 1 my mind shifts into busy mode. What do I need to buy? What special Christmas events are coming up? And the biggest question: What do I need to get done before Christmas to make it a good?
How do you get joy back in your life?
As I focus on those Christmas questions, I don’t make time for those things that bring me joy during the rest of the year. Things like quiet time, exercise and eating right. December busyness crowds out all the normal joyful activities.
No wonder joy is lost during Advent.
How do you find what brings you joy?
Think about what brings you joy in your life during the rest of the year. Going for a walk? Reading a book? Enjoying a good cup of tea or coffee? Conversation with a friend? Don’t stop doing those things because December life gets busy. Make time for them.
Today I made time to take a walk. What can you do today to keep joy in your life?
Finding Joy in Life and Joy in Jesus
It is Advent and we anticipate the celebration of Jesus’ birth. As you find joy in your life through the walks, conversations, or coffee, contemplate what it really means for Jesus to come into your life.
If your church has an Advent devotional, use that as a guide. You can also find a devotional online. Guideposts is always a good place to start. You can find it here.
You can also find joy in Christ through reading Advent scriptures. There is a collection here.
Share what brings you joy and how you will keep it in your schedule this holiday season.
Let’s do this, together!
