Prayer to Release Guilt

Dear Lord,

Guilt clings to my life and I feel powerless to rid myself of it. Help me!

If I have done this and there is guilt on my hands—if I have repaid my ally with evil or without cause have robbed my enemy— then let my enemy pursue and overtake me; let my enemies trample my life to the ground and make me sleep in the dust. (Psalm 7:3-5)

My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear. (Psalm 38:4) Yet I’ve been carrying this burden so long it’s become comfortable. It’s difficult for me to release it. Yet I choose to release this burden. I place it in your capable hands, Lord. For you know my stupidity and my guilt is not hidden from you (Psalm 69:5).

When I acknowledge my wrongdoing to you and do not cover up my wickedness and say to you, “I confess my wrongdoing.” You forgive the guilt of my wrongs, (Psalm 32:5) and say, “your guilt is taken away and your wrong atoned for.” (Isaiah 6:7)

When you take away our guilt and forgive us, we now have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, Jesus body, …  having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water, let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. (Hebrews 10:19-23)

Hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. (Romans 5:5)

Jesus says, “Your wrongdoing is forgiven.” Go live like you are guilt free and forgiven.

Amen.
