Prayer: Fill My Cup

Note: Before you begin this prayer, find a cup and hold it while praying.

Dear Lord,

We are surrounded by needs and problems clamoring for our attention. Which ones should we deal with first? How are we to prioritize our days? Whose needs are we to fulfill today? We can’t do it all. You faced the same situation while here on earth and You left a lot undone in Your earthly ministry so that You might have the opportunity to do so now, after Pentecost, through the Holy Spirit.

The cup we hold represents problems in our lives. We try to fill the cup with our own efforts and find them lacking.

However, when we wait for You to fill our cup, we find Your grace and glory, Your love and joy. Your Holy Spirit.

Let us share some of Your blessings now.

[List your blessings.]

Despite the blessings in our lives, we feel the weight of problems and circumstances around us. They feel heavy to our souls. Let us give those burdens to You now.

[Concerns: As you pray each concern, choose a word from those below as
God’s answer to that concern and place that word in your cup by circling it or
writing it.
Hope   Joy   Peace   Patience   Love   Goodness   Strength   Faithfulness
Power   Mercy   Grace   Abundance   Gentleness   Kindness   Self-Control
  Knowledge   Comfort]

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:3-10

Amen.
