Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. Psalm 20:7
Read: Psalm 20
There are times our heart despairs. When people we know are sick or troubled relationships or looking at the state of politics right now.
And yet…we can learn to trust in the Lord and his promises in scripture.
- “Mary, you will bear a son…” (Luke 1:31)
- “Abraham, your descendants will be like the stars…” (Gen 22:17)
- “Don’t fret, for it only tends to evil.” (Psalm 37:8)
Don’t fret means to not worry. Yet worry is hard to conquer as new challenges and situations cause us to fear the future. The phrase “what if” hounds us when we hear about conflicts around the globe, politics, natural disasters, online predators, etc. Worry creeps into our thoughts and renders us incapable of moving forward.
And yet…
When we tell the worrisome thoughts to take a hike, we trust God to care for us. When we do this, God gives us peace and the assurance will be with us through it all.
We hold onto promises from scripture knowing they were fulfilled and trust that the God who gave Abraham thousands of descendants is the same one who takes care of us and people we know. The God who promised a Messiah and fulfilled that promise has a plan for our lives and will fulfill it in His timing.
- “The Lord is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
- “The peace of God will guard your hearts and minds.” (Philippians 4:7)
- “I will be with you, I will never leave you or forsake you…” (Deuteronomy 31:8)
All promises in scripture have been or will be fulfilled. Be glad Scripture records promises and the answers. It shows God is trustworthy even if we don’t see the results. Abraham didn’t see his descendants numbering like the stars, but we do. It’s also a reminder that we won’t see all promises fulfilled.
And yet…
We trust God will take care of us and the people we care about, no matter the outcome.
Dear Lord,
The things I’m worried about are as follows:
[List your worries.]
I lay all these worries in Your care and trust You to take care of them in Your way and time.
Thank you for your faithfulness to fulfill all Your promises.
Amen.
