How to Battle the Worry Beast

There’s a lot of people enslaved to the worry beast. I’m no exception. After all it’s human nature to worry. Everyone does it. It’s socially acceptable and normal to worry.

Except it’s not. It’s become so culturally ingrained you don’t notice when the worry beast enters your life. He’s sneaky and starts out with a really small thought. Then the barely noticeable thought starts growing.

When the worry beast grows big enough, he hems you in, pins you down and restricts your freedom. The worry beast robs your sleep, peace, security, and joy. He erodes your trust in God.

Defeat the worry beast through awareness and persistent trust in God.

Awareness

When you discover the worry beast in your life, stop. Recognize the presence of the worry beast.

Trust God

When you say, “God’s got this, but …” Stop. Reaffirm God’s got this period. Reaffirm your trust in Jesus. “Jesus I trust you with __________.”

Sound too simple to work? Yup. Does it work? Absolutely! The worry beast stops in its tracks. Reaffirm your trust in God to shrink the worry beast.

Persistence

Yet the worry beast is persistent. Each time you find the worry beast in your life, stop and reaffirm your trust in God.

Awareness and persistent trust in God defeat the worry beast.

Scripture

Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? Luke 12:25-26

An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up. Proverbs 12:25
